SOLO WEEKEND

SATURDAY

I decided to mountainbike saturday with Bob and Jaren up at Mt. Bachelor. It’s been about two years since I’ve biked in the bike park but I was feeling confident that I could ride without pushing myself too hard or getting into a gnarly crash.

When I decided to get ready to go I noticed my front tire was flat. All the sealant in the tires dried up. It was clear I havent biked in a long time. I tired to find the air compressor bits to make my tire tubeless again but I couldnt find them anywhere. Luckily Tony was working so I stopped by Hutch’s. The shop was packed but tony let me go work on the bike in the back. It was like old times. I even helped out some customers because they thought I worked there. I loved working at that shop. Tony also tossed me a TLD front fender thing.

MEETING ROWAN

After biking I planned on going home, letting the dogs out, showering and heading back to town to meet Rowan. I called Zack and we decided I should just go to their house. I had an extra shirt but it didnt smell very good. I stopped at Market of choice to grab some flowers, a snack and something to drink. Then I stopped by Mountain Supply to grab a clean shirt so I wasnt so dusty and stinky from biking when I held the baby. The dudes at Mountain Supply voted medium on a T shirt. Big mistake . . or little mistake I guess. It was sooo tight. So stinky Fox shirt it was! All the worry about weather or not I was dirty dropped right when I saw the little dude. He is perfect. Seeing Zack and Kendra hold and love him was so special. I cried as soon as I held him. I think some of it was the reminder of how special and powerful it was to have Tatum and some of it was wittnessing his little life just starting out and Zack and Kendra being parents. What ever it was it was so rad!

I chilled for a bit at their house and zack showed me some of his new books and his gallery wall. Then I took off ready for dinner and to let the dogs out.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

SUNDAY

Started the day with a call from jord - she forgot about the time change. I was having a dream about riding in a horse. She figured out it was 6am my time and we got off the phone. I stayed awake and after a few minutes of scrolling and thinking of a plan for the day I called her back. I miss my girls! Tatum has looked so cute in every picture.

I got up made coffee and played music super loud after watching a tiny desk concert. I did the Sunday breath work class. It was awesome. I only did about half. It was focused on self love and it felt fitting that was am on a solo weekend and I was in my office downstairs. I had some positive thoughts come in. One that brought up some emotion was picturing the moment Tatum was handed to jord. I was so relieved and happy to see her. I think I just kept saying you did it jord she’s here she’s here. What a powerful moment. I had some other memories come in like moments in wilderness. I really just felt a sense of happiness with myself. I stopped midway and got excited about planning the hike. I also got excited about printing my photo book, making music and continuing to make spaces feel confront to me and our fam. I navigated the permit website and got a permit Mt Jefferson wilderness.

The day getting ready to hike was a blur.

I was struggled to get out of the house on time and google maps give me a wildly wrong time for how long it would take to get to the trail head. Also as I hopped on the road smoke rolled in. I was a bit worried about smoke as I got through sisters and the smoke was getting worse. I kind of commited deep down that the overnight was going to happen. Nora broke through the screen at the gas station. I passed a few hitch hikers but ended up just cruising along to the trail head.

Driving up the road to the trail head was awesome! The view of Jefferson was epic and I loved how low key the spot felt. I was very aware of time and needed to make a decision on where I would camp. It looked like camping by the lake would be easy but wouldnt have great views … and that climbing up the peak near the lake would be cool but would likely have no camping all the way up which would be a total gamble. As the dogs and I were getting on trail the was a big sign about dogs getting sick and drying from drinking water with some algae in it. Ok! Let’s gamble with the ridge.

I had quite a bit of pep in my step the whole hike especially once I commited to the ridge. It was getting darker and I was very aware that the night could suck if I didnt find a spot and I had to come all the way back down.

Once a gained the final ridge in the hike Jefferson came into view. It was super rad! Wendy had called me because she saw my instagram of a rattlesnack from the night before so I facetimed her and showed her the view. Then I facetimed Jord before hustling to the tip top in hopes of a spot to sleep.

Luckily there was indeed a spot! It just happed to be very rocky and uneven. I knew I didn’t bring enough water now that the dogs couldn’t just drink out of the lake. I spilled water that I heated up for a meal so no water for breakfast. I laughed it off and felt pretty low pressure about the whole situation. The view from the spot was really cool and I felt really acomplished for hammering up the hill before sunset. It got cold quick and I was superr sweaty so I tossed on my puffy and got bed all set up. Once it was dark Nora did her funny scared at night thing and went right to bed. She did well on the hike and once we started of the ridge trail I let her off-leash. Jackson struggled with his pack and I was bummed to see it but once I took his pack off he was running around like a pup again.

Sleeping was not ideal. It was rocky and cold. The dogs and I were very cuddled up! Jackson slept by my head and nora was by my side. I felt spooked out shortly but I got over it.
